With the Olympics being held from 26 July to 11 August, with the Paralympics following from 28 August to 8 September, the Games are expected to attract over 15 million visitors and generate substantial economic activity, making them an attractive target for cybercriminals.
Types of Threats
Cybersecurity experts anticipate various forms of attacks, including phishing scams, malware, and distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. Spoofing schemes, where criminals impersonate legitimate entities, and phishing attacks designed to steal personal information, are significant concerns. Additionally, politically motivated sabotage by state-sponsored actors and espionage targeting dissidents and activists pose serious risks.
