Global expansion presents unique IT challenges in today’s interconnected business world, especially when companies acquire businesses in new regions. Our recent project, the newly acquired arm of our UK-based client, highlighted the importance of a smooth IT transition for satellite offices.

The Challenge: Bringing IT standards to a new region

When the client expanded into Australia through acquisition, their IT infrastructure faced immediate challenges. With the IT function centralized in the UK, Australian businesses, primarily front-office personnel—relied on their UK counterparts to manage their technology needs. The new Australian offices needed to meet the company’s global IT standards, and time was of the essence.

The Goal: A unified IT experience

Replacing a mix of aged and ageing hardware with modern, secure, and efficient desktops. The primary objectives were:

  • Ensuring devices supported the latest Windows versions and security patches.
  • Deploying devices with a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) for enhanced security.
  • Streamlining IT management with Microsoft Intune for centralized endpoint security and control.

Our Role: Early involvement for a seamless rollout

The IT team identified the need for a supplier that could replicate their UK IT build in Australia. Our expertise in global IT procurement and deployment made us the ideal partner to facilitate this transition. The selected solution was Microsoft Surface devices, tailored to meet the business’s needs in terms of screen size, processor power, and RAM specifications.

Managing the Rollout: Logistics, Compliance, and Execution

Deploying new desktops across multiple Australian sites—Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane—presented logistical and regulatory challenges. Our role extended beyond hardware supply to include:

  • Pre-build Configuration: Ensuring compatibility with existing IT estate through a standardized build
  • Regulatory & Financial Navigation: Managing currency exchange, regional taxes, and compliance requirements for seamless transactions.
  • Phased Deployment & Logistics: Coordinating split deliveries to accommodate office moves, with interim shipments to ensure business continuity. Despite time zone differences, we maintained a responsive approach, limiting delays to a single business day.

Results: A smoother transition for employees

With approximately 60 employees affected by the project, minimizing disruption was crucial. By integrating our delivery schedules with the office relocation in Melbourne, we ensured that employees had access to their new devices at the right time. Additionally, our logistics support enabled next-day delivery to Melbourne and within 48 hours to Sydney and Brisbane.

Key takeaways & outlook

This project reinforced the importance of a strategic IT partner in global expansion efforts. We helped our client create a seamless IT experience for their Australian team by streamlining procurement, logistics, and deployment. Future upgrades and enhancements are already being considered as the company expands its footprint.
